Since I wanted to like the first one so much, I had to give book two a shot. (I can never decide if it's the book or the author just isn't my cup of tea until I read at least two books, sometimes more if I really wanted to like them.) This was also another story featuring a star hockey player. I'm really not into sports but this is the one sport I do have a vague fanship for so I enjoyed that aspect. Especially as it addresses the serious physical danger hockey and football players face, which is the reason I have qualms with liking the sport.

While not as overwhelmingly serious as the first book, it was still a heavy story - not a light and fluffy romantic read, that's for sure. I liked Jace and Eden a lot. There were times I got frustrated with Eden as she judged him based off her initial impression and then was constantly jumping to conclusions over everything he did. I found Jace a very sympathetic character so it was hard seeing her judge him so harshly (though, of course, I had the advantage of reading his POV while she didn't. ;) ) There was also a heart-wrenching side-story involving a young girl in desperate need of a transplant.

The book also included a novella, I Really Do Miss Your Smile, about the Christiansen parents. When it came to the romance, I liked it better than the main books since it was cuter and fluffier. But I thought it suffered from the drawbacks I usually find in novellas - not enough character development and a bit of insta-love. But that's definitely personal taste - I rarely care for novellas but many people love them.

Over all, I'd say it's an excellent series, just a bit too heavy for my tastes.

It Had to Be You Christiansen Family Susan May Warren 9781414378428 Books Reviews

Once again I have been left a humble mess after finishing one of Ms. Warren's books. This particular book, about two unlikely people coming together and finding redemption and love, has combined with a personal event in my life and touched me on a much deeper level than I expected.

Hockey player Jace and favorite daughter but oft ignored Eden are unwittingly brought together when her brother Owen's life starts to spiral out of control. She's struggling to find her purpose in life and he's struggling to accept God's grace after escaping his empty past. Their "enemies-to-friends-to-more" transition was SUCH a miraculously beautiful thing to watch over the course of the story and with the added secondary focus on a homeless teen who touched so many lives, I can't believe I'm able to function after such a poignant reading experience.

Ms. Warren has a breathtaking talent for composing a touching and emotional cast of characters that always seems to speak directly to my past and present circumstances. Her beautiful use of scripture in moments of doubt or personal reflection have been such a blessing in my own faith. I can't begin to express how deeply her books have affected me but her words are best compared to the balm of Gilead; helping heal some prominent spiritual wounds I've struggled with over the last few years. If you're looking for books that are wholesome, clean and with a positive message of hope and forgiveness then I would highly recommend this and more by Ms. Warren.
This is the second book in a six book series. It follows the six Christiansen siblings as they find love Darek, Eden, Grace, Casper, Amelia and Owen. The titles of the books, in order, are Take a Chance on Me, It Had to Be You, When I Fall in Love, Always on My Mind, The Wonder of You & You're the One That I Want.

In this book, Eden is trying to keep her hockey-star brother, Owen, in line. He's gone a little off the rails lately, and she's looking for someone to blame. She takes most of the responsibility, but she also throws out a little of the blame on the team captain, Jace "J-Hammer" Jacobsen, who has a terrible reputation.

When Owen is injured in an accident one night, Jace and Eden come together and start to form a friendship. They find a coma patient tucked away in the hospital, a John Doe, and decide to work together to find the young man's family. In the meantime, Eden is coming to think that her job writing obituaries isn't fulfilling, and Jace is fighting an injury that could end his career. They have some major misunderstandings in there, but truth eventually heals their hearts.

Also, we have a side story of Sam and Maddy. Maddy is nine years old and needs a heart transplant. Sam doesn't understand how God could have abandoned him and allow his little girl to suffer. This part of the story is a real tear-jerker, and I wish there had been a bit more of a wrap-up for this part of the story.

I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but I was able to read this one without feeling lost. You get glimpses of the personalities of the other siblings, but I don't think it's enough to spoil it if you read them out of order or as a stand alone. This was a good book that I enjoyed reading.
