Just about the time you think you know what's going to happen... it doesn't. It does continually encourage through the daughter that is missing and the way she continues to believe as she has been taught. Also, the plot keeps you guessing and sometimes I was surprised how the main character's life was like real life. Just when you think it can't get any worse... sometimes it does. I was surprised by how the characters seemed to show 'real life' and how we can stall in our tracks but be forced to move forward even when we don't want to.
This was an amazing read - but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a happy story to escape into.

There will be some tears, and I can pretty much guarantee that you'll be thinking about these characters for days. For me personally, I was most challenged by Sarah. How would I handle such circumstances? Would I hold strongly to my faith, or give up?

I appreciated the way that the author was able to convey the awfulness of the situations without getting into unnecessarily graphic details
Every book by Cantrell is breathtaking. The Feathered Bone by Julie Cantrell is not a light hearted read, but it is captivating and inspiring.
The Feathered Bone Holds you right from page one. Love New Orleans and Julie captures the drama, mystery and flavor of New Orleans. The drama builds and becomes more intense with each page. Easy to read and follow, not convoluted with too many characters or places. VERY spell binding as is New Orleans. Characters you can relate to, places you can 'see', and a story you wont forget. Love you Julie!
I am a new fan of Julie Cantrell. After reading "Into the Free" I knew I wanted to read more of her books. I am so glad I did! "The Feathered Bone" is one of those books you cannot put down. The author's use of symbolism while paralleling Hurricane Katrina with kidnapping, human trafficking, domestic violence, and suicide is so intense! Recommend this book for teenagers and adults.
This has to be one of the hardest books to review. I say this because it's difficult to put into words the swirl of emotions that I experienced while reading this novel.

The story is well written and the characters come alive. So much so, that I was an emotional mess throughout. Such difficult topics to cover, yet more important than most people realize. As tough as it was to read about Sarah and Ellie I pray that others will be made aware of how this secret world affects so many.

It was interesting the way the author told the tale from two different points of view. Amanda, Ellie's mother and chaperone for the field trip, and Sarah, Ellie's best friend.

Julie Cantrell does an excellent job of weaving a heart wrenching story with believable characters. There is so much pain, loss, and devastation yet in with the mix is healing and forgiveness.

I highly recommend The Feathered Bone to everyone. It is not your typical feel-good story, but nonetheless, an extremely important read. Be sure to have a box of tissues handy. You will need them.
Read this entire novel in two sittings - it's a beautiful tribute to love, loss, and faith. Cantrell is indeed on her best game with this new novel. The descriptions of New Orleans are lovely and spot-on, as well! Highly recommend.
